60 Sport smoker

Ok...I just got my '65 Sport out of covered storage after 15+ years. Cleaned out the fuel tank and carb. Checked the float level. Installed a new battery and she fired up. It is smoking rather heavily during hard accceleration, but not so much at lower speeds. It is also slobbering at the muffler joint. Took a compression check and it read 67 lbs. It starts easily though. I'm thinking a leakdown test is next. Is there a possibility that the center gasket could be bad and letting transmission oil into the motor or maybe bad rings? The bike only has 1600 miles on it. Would like to get it corrected before I put it up for sale. Thanks. Jim

In my opinion, it's unlikely to be the center gasket. It is more likely to be the right side crank seal allowing it to pull in some transmission oil.  You might run it a little more and see if it clears up with more time on the seal.  If  you do end up replacing the seal, it's probably worth replacing the left side seal, too. It has probably hardened over the years and will leak air into the crankcase.

       I did 'lol' when I read it was 'slobbering at the muffler joint'. Great description, that's exactly what they do  :D ;D :D

    Low compression may be due to rings being stuck after sitting for 15 years but see how it goes, they could free up with some use.
