Yeah Lee, I tried it last time on a different set of carbs but it made no difference, I'll try the same new needle and seats in these carbs in the next few days.

Nice job again Lee have you checked carbs for wear in the mounts for the float pin you can fix this with drilling then bushing cheers

Hi Coxy, thanks for the compliment.

You must have missed this photo that was on the home page recently, these carbs were from my 45,000 mile GTR and were badly elongated, I bushed them but still haven't used them because the ones I fitted are fine.

Try lowering the float levels a little.  I fought mine for a long time - it would dribble fuel on the ground when I parked it, even though I had replaced the float valves with new ones and double checked that the floats didn't have any fuel in them.  Finally, I figured out that even with the factory float level settings, when it was on the sidestand, the left carb would still leak from the throat. Dropping the level about 1 mm stopped the problem and hasn't caused any problem running.  It's possible that my sidestand lets it lean more than normal. It seems to be OK, although I haven't measured the angle the bike leans.

If it leaks when on the centerstand or running, then you may have a float that filled up with fuel.  That is pretty unlikely on a relatively new set of carbs, though.

Hi Karl, I always set it up on the center stand, at factory setting they leaked so I did drop them but as it was late last year and I can't remember by how much so I'll be having another go soon although rain is predicted for all next week.

I did test the floats and they looked good.

All part of the fun.

Endeavor to persevere, Z. As I think your man Winston once said. Carbs are certainly one of the more entertaining (or time consuming) point of a 350 Bridgestone. You'll triumph!

In Apollo 13 Tom Hanks reports 'Houston we have a problem' and if you listen carefully Kevin Bacon mumbles 'I think it's the carbs'.

Well, Thank God, Apollo 13 got back on those carbs, just !!   Before emailing Kevin Bacon to find out what he did, once you are happy the floats and needle valves are doing their job properly, try checking the float bowl flanges are flat. Seem to remember one of the guys flagging this up towards the end of the last post on this topic, probably yours. Also,  NOS float bowl gaskets are getting pretty hard by now. Just a thought.

Brian, I'd done that already, gave the bowl a rub on a sheet of emery on a flat surface but not a lot you can do on the corresponding bit. Had another go this afternoon trying another method, if it works I'll let you all know if it fails I'll say nowt. :-X

I recall doubling up on the gaskets to solve a leak in the day.

As the leak X 2 always came from the gasket area I decided to use a sealing compound on the gaskets to see if that solved the problem, it did no more leaking gaskets but the bowl overflowed and the petrol ran out through the overflow, so it must be the float valves or the float height. The valves look to be in good condition so I set the float height at 28mm, started the bike yesterday and no leaks, hope it stays that way. :)

Piece Of Cake z, glad to hear the fuel is now going where it is intended. I made a cardboard template for 350's to ensure precise float adjustment years back but I'll damned if I can find it now, was going to make you one.

Thanks for the thought and offer of the setting gauge Lee but I do have one made to manufactures setting of 15/16".

Next job is to coax the bubbles from the oil injection pipes, I'm winning. :)

Yours is a lot nicer than mine z, both do the same thing. She almost there, keep riding it and bubbles will magically disappear ;).

Yeah they are almost gone and I think they will disappear as you say when I have it running again, problem now is that I'm away on holiday to Tenerife (one of a group of islands off the west coast of Africa) on Tuesday for a couple of weeks so won't be able to do anything until I return.

Plenty of time when I do return though as I took early retirement a few weeks ago so work will no longer get in the way. Yahooooo! ;D

Hey Z. Enjoy your retirement. I'll bet you'll be working harder than ever at something you really want to do. That has been my experience with "retirement" ;D
