175HS Brake handle switch? Is this stock?
« on: April 18, 2015, 02:04:56 PM »
I am tearing apart a 175 HS for restoration and this is probably the first of many questions.
Is this the stock 175 HS handle and mount?  I see that it has been ground down and it has a brake switch.  But the photos online are showing no brake switch.
The parts diagram shows two handles.  One for the MII and the other for the 175.
I think I have a perch from the MII
But a handle from a 175?

I would love to have a brake switch on there for safety reasons.  Can it be wired into the 175 system?  and does anybody have a perch and handle combo that has not been modified like this one?  The handle does not activate or reach the switch even with all the grinding the previous owner did.

Thanks Fellas!   The RS and SS doesn't even have the mirror hole like mine has.

So the bigger question is  - Can the MS II style brake switch be wired into the HS brake system?
I'm guessing that I might have to run an extra set of brake wires all the way to the rear brake switch and splice it into the system somehow?

I'm assuming that the stock set up is - the only way to activate the brake light is with the foot brake.  I'd like the brake light activated by both front and rear.

If i can wire it into the 175 system, then I'm going to look for a used MSII setup. Anybody have one to sell?

Josh, you might try contacting Gene ( Mopar5425) for the parts you're looking for. He's currently downsizing and may have what you need.

Hi Josh,
A recent post covered wiring for the front brake switch as below :-

      http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/index.php?topic=3813.0

Should be easily adapted to the 175.  You only need to run a single wire along the frame and tee it in to the wire which connects the rear brake switch to the rear light.

I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!
