help, help,help, 350 gtr clutch will not engage

i can not seem to get the clutch to push the rod inside the motor to the clutch. there is about 1/2-3/4 in short of rod to go to start pushing on the clutch, am i missing a small rod yet? the adjustment is all the way in and it is not enough to push the tappit looking piece in the clutch. the little ball bearing is in the turned adustment thingy. and the long rod is just not able to push the other tappit looking mushroom piece. i am thinking there must be another small rod in between the adjustment screw and the ball?. anyone have a 350 the have that knows what i'm  talking about? thanks scott

Yep - there is a 6 x 10 dowel between the two pieces of actuating rod you have in your engine.  It is P/N 09056-105, item 24 on page 17 of the parts catalog.  Probably on the floor under your workbench.
