Found this video of a couple 350 GTR's in Japan on Youtube. Thought ya'll might enjoy watching it. ;D

Looks like they need a good tuneup. I never had one that was that hard to start. I like the tuned exhaust pipes though. Hopefully Kataro will get some made soon.
-
I emailed Kataro about those expansion chambers and never got a reply, I'd like a set also. Maybe he'll see this. With all the troubles in Japan possibly making expansion chambers isn't the first thing on his list of priorities. I wouldn't blame him one bit.
That last bike did seem a little hard to start. If you have a kick start bike, the more people that are watching the harder it is to start ;D

I wish I had the welding skills and the tools to whip up a couple of sets of these for me and my buddies ;D , but alas, I don't. I would probably want to put some stingers on the ends, get them chrome plated or ceramic coated.
-
Interesting to see and hear. Dry clutches aren't noisy enough so they cut them open for show??
The first one firing up sounded like a chain saw with a centrifugal clutch rattling.
Also an interesting way of cutting the air cleaner into 2 separate parts on the one bike.

I've watched that video a bunch of times now and until you mentioned it, I never noticed the split air cleaner! :o
-
Interesting to see the Marushos in the back ground. I wonder if the Marusho designer who helped design the GTR was there?
-
In the back in the video there is a white Honda pick up i had one back in the UK.
It was a 550 cc 2 cylinder i went every where in that pick up put motorcycles
On the back and great MPG,just going down memory lane.
Thanks.
Steve.

Thanks for sharing.

When he zooms in to show the cut open clutch housing you can also see he even drilled 3 holes in the oil filler plug.

In the first vid and the last one it appears that they have fabbed up some rear sets, you can see a shift linkage coming forward and a small arm on the shifter peg.
-
Neat video, it helped me find the single cylinder bs road racer video , thanks

Looks like BRIDGESTONE'S are alive and well in JAPAN. I wonder how many were sold over there compared to the U.S?
-
This is the video. THANKS for posting. Can anybody read what it says on the gastank? There are 50cc racer photos on flicker.
-
It says Bridgestone and under that, it looks like it says (Danton or Dantun) (821 or 831) there's also a small BS logo on the rear seat lip and bridgestone on the front forks.
If you click the Youtube logo on the video I posted, it'll take you to the original site with a larger pic and from there you can bring it up to full screen by clicking the symbol in the lower right corner of that sites video.

How much for the GTO DM?
-
How much for the GTO DM?
Huh? Not following you... do you mean Gene's bike?
-
At the end of the video a GTO was for sale.
-
Oh, now I see what you mean. That's actually just a preview of the next youtube video in line to be played, it's not a part of the video I linked.
That GTO was on eBay last year & sold somewhere in the $5,000 range if I remember right. The video was part of his eBay listing to entice potential buyers. It's also the one Mike Anderson had & sold on ebay earlier. It ended up "down under" with an asking price of around $12,000. Not sure if it ever sold at that price.
Here's the direct link to that video.....

Cool DM, hopefully Gene gets that or more for his, real nice original GTO as well.
Thanks...Lee

DL
Hehehe, sorry DL, I just post em when I find em. ;D
Maybe it's time to put your Sherlock Holmes hat on and contact the guy in the video. It apparently went to some businesses show room in Ft. Worth for display. Who knows, it may be for sale and the video guy might be able to give you some contact info.
If not, I'll keep my eyes open & get back to you if I find one that's maybe closer to you.

Sweet Sounds DM!

She sounds really nice, someone's done a brilliant job on her. Hope mine sounds like that. Brian
-
Sweet Sounds DM!
I wish "Dr. K" had shown more of the bike. From what you can see, it looks like a nicely restored GTR. I did notice at the end that it had lettering on the seat that indicates it's a 1971 bike, although he could just have the incorrect cover on it.
-
Wow, Nice! And no smoke. ;D
...bert
-
and he has some turn signals on it.
-
...and flanged rims.
-
Wow, Nice! And no smoke. ;D
...bert
Well spotted Bert, I'd be a little worried by that lack of smoke, particularly when revved !!. Surely there should be some, even with a clean burning oil.
Brian.
-
So much more socially acceptable running like this, Brian...lol But your point is well taken, these motors were not designed or intended to completely consume the oil. Otherwise how would we get the lovely streams from the muffler joints. ;D ::) ;D
...bert
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaaah ...the muffler joints, yes.... forgotten those. ;D. Just rewatched the video twice, there is a small puff of smoke from the left pipe when revved so it's getting some oil. Will they run that cleanly with modern 2T oils and the pump set down slightly ?, I hope so.
Brian.
-
I'm hoping so too, but my first experience with synthetics awaits.
...bert
-
Bert, give Lucas High Temp Semi-Synthetic Smokeless 2-Stroke Racing Oil a try, it works and "Buddy" recommends highly so you know its good stuff...DL ;D
-
Gracias DL...as I said, my new (rebuilt) motor will be my first experience with synthetic 2 stroke oil. Always used Castrol in the days of yore...;-)
I am down with anything recommended by Buddy!
...bert
-
I run castrol TTS full synthetic in mine, I had a bottle of it from my rd400, so in it went. Still smokes a lot tho.
I am going to back off the oil pump one day...
-
Bert, yep, Castrol works great too...DL ;)
-
2 smoke in the air ;D i love it when i look behind me and see it.... and if your on your harley when i go by :o ::) tuff shit.... i love going by those guys..... go ahead ::) try to get up to me on my GTO 350 But out here in Oregun we have lots of roads with twisteys... nothing like going into a corner at 60 and layeing her over..... but ive been rideing for over 50 years ::) Mc Mc and as the brits say ???? ive been down a time or too... or i think they say geting off?????
-
srpackrat, you struck a chord with me here. I have had several get offs but only once on my GTR. way too fast into the hay bales at Del Ray Beach resulting in a high side which landed me on the bales. Relatively painless for me and ol' sista 350. Some of the others were on a Norton Atlas and a 450 Honda. Those involved road rash, road barriers, and other unpleasantness...yikes!! Too old for that $#!%...
...bert
-
More sweet sounds. This time it's a 71 GTO....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYMn7ZYV3JQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYMn7ZYV3JQ)
-
Yup, the engine sounds pretty sweet but notice the vibes on the tail end when the throttle is tweaked and seems to include the back end of the seat unit (at end of video). Could just be loose bolts, engine mounts or a tune up. The seat units do have a weak point in the middle, particularly if the base is corroded. Often thought they would benefit from an extra support at the back. I'd still like it though. :D ;D :D
Brian
-
I noticed that too Brian, everything was shakn' back there... seat/fender/tail light assembly & exhaust baffles. I'm sure it would make for quite a thrilling ride for the wife/girlfriend! ;D :o ;D
-
Right On DM, he must have one hell of a cam in it by the way its shakin dude... :-\
-
............... A cammy BS, another 4stroke ??? ??? ::)
Meant to ask, are those original BS turn signals, look pretty neat. Brian.
-

Hey Brian, I can't answer the turn signal question, as I'm not sure I've ever seen BS originals. This is another video posted on YouTube by Dr. K, the same guy that put up the GTR video I recently linked. That bike was located in Japan and this one looks to be as well, so I guess it's possible they are genuine BS signals. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will give us the answer.

Good to see an actual Bridgestone with this style of gas tank. I wonder what percentage of 90cc Bridgestones were sold in Japan?

From our fellow member ziggy, here's your chance to listen to the sweet sounds of his latest GTR resto....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfnS7DIUYuo
-
I never get tired of that sound! Beautiful job, Lee! Is this GTR number 3?
...bert
-
Hi Bert and fellow BS enthusiasts, no this isn't number 3, it's number 2, there's no number 3 in the pipe line at the moment, the video was made a couple of weeks ago to simply show someone the GTR running, didn't even polish it.
I've been quiet on this forum for a good number of months now, about eight to be precise due to a health scare and consequently I lost some interest in motorcycles. To be blunt I had a massive heart attack followed by cardiac arrest but I'm good now and my life is back to normal, the only thing that's getting me down now is the constant raining.
I'll try to contribute to the forum now that I'm better.
Lee (Ziggy)
-
Welcome back Lee.
Sorry to hear of your scare and can empathise asIi had a similar scare three years ago. Take your meds, listen to the doc and get on with your life. Works for me.
Looking forward to your contributions.
-
Z, I'll just add to Sye's sentiments. Very GLAD to hear you are well and back. Sending along some virtual sun from Arizona and hoping your weather improves! ;D
...bert
-
Glad to hear of your recovery and having your life back on track. Had a heart attack over 2 years ago and it took me around eight months to start to feel normal again. Part of my problem was it took that long to figure out I can't tolerate caffeine anymore. Wish I could send you some Nebraska sun but its been in short supply lately.......Rod
-
Lee, Great to hear both you and the GTR are back up and running. Look froward to seeing you again in the not too distant future. Try a GTO if you fancy another BS resto ;) Brian.

350 Clutch Noise ????

350 Clutch Noise ????
When mine sounded like that, both the clutch nut (40mm spanner) and the crankshaft nut were loose. Unfortunately, it just started making the noise again. Looks like I may be doing a bit of maintenance work.
-
Considering it has a cutaway cover, that doesn't sound too bad. I've tried putting packers around the outside of the plates without any reduction of noise, just chewed up the packers !
The Kawasaki 350 Avenger used multiple rubber pads between the plates, supposedly to stop plate drag but I wonder if they had the same noise issue as BS. Not been able to find any details of how they were fitted.
I'm told our clutch is quieter than the Ducati dry clutch, anyone confirm this :-\
-
For a little over 2 years I owned a 2008 S4Rs Ducati tri-colore.
Loved the bike, but when I found a clutch cover that wasn't cut out I installed it.
I think it was a little noisier than the GTR clutch.
