Gto points comparables
« on: August 08, 2017, 02:08:40 AM »
Would someone know which Kawasaki points fit the gto l was told a while ago that there was a set that is compatible and can't remember what they are
I can get them from the USA but the shipping costs are becoming expensive and making small items unrealistic any help would be appreciated thanks

 Alan,
Points from the Kaw KZ 550 through to 1000 will fit the GTO. Just check they look the same.  Some condensers are also the same but make sure the clip for the oil pad faces the right way up. Kaw used a similar kokusan Denki alternator to BS

These are the cheapest I can find, usually made by DAIICHI who I believe made the original BS points.

When importing parts, ask the seller to mark them as 'HISTORIC MOTORCYCLE PARTS'. You should only have to pay 5% import duty and no VAT but you still get charged the £8 customs handling fee  :'(.

Iam also for the first time going to fit my own Pistons and rings l've never done it before is it easy any tips would be appreciated
I've got spare rings just in case because l'am a bit heavy handed and have a tendency to break things many thanks

      Alan,
I assumed M&P would also have the left points but it looks like they may not. They certainly have the correct condensers, see KZ650 parts.
12months ago, I had a choice of at least 6 suppliers in the UK for points but they are not coming up on Google. Found a set in the US for about £30 inc postage but you may wish to keep searching in the UK.

Few tips for the pistons, warm the pistons with a heat gun before pushing the piston (gudgeon) pins in or out. Be careful to line up the ends of the rings with the locating pin in the ring groove before sliding the barrel down. Ease the rings in with your fingers as the barrel comes down. Coat the cylinder studs with copaslip, ACF 50 or Corrosion Block before fitting the barrels, they have a habit of rusting. Ensure the L/R  cylinders and heads do not touch each other when fitted or you will end up with a mystery tapping sound when the engine is running.
          Brian.

Seems the Suzuki GS550/750 points are also suitable, see here:-  they look correct

      wemoto.com/bikes/suzuki/gs_550_et/80/picture/ignition_points_left_hand/

They do list L/R points and reasonable price                                  Brian
