Title: How much should I pay?
Post by: JC on March 13, 2018, 06:33:53 PM
Found this bike for $450 it's not locked up but it's been sitting in storage since 1981. The guy told me it was a 1965. Is it worth $450 or should I try to talk him down?

Assuming it's complete with no serious rust, $450 would be afair price. Otherwise negotiate. Good luck😊

If I restored it what would it be worth?

If you fully restored it (re-chroming etc) it has been my experience that you would be lucky to re-coup your outlays.
Restored price would be what a buyer would be willing to pay.

Hey JC,
I agree with Ray.  In that condition, I wouldn't pay more than $200.  Fully restored including chrome, you wouldn't be able to recoup your cost.  These machines (BS50/60/90's) are restored out of love and/or memories not investments.  Good luck, Steve

Thanks. I was hoping to buy it for about $200 and get it running. I kinda like the worn look.

Just worked out a deal with the guy to buy it for $100 with a title. Hope I made a good deal.

Well a $100 admission price isn't too much to gamble. Hopefully the Coors on the seat was full & cold and came with 23 more siblings!
Good luck on getting it to run again!

Great Gamble - I had one that looked WAY worse than that, with 10 miles, but that thing purred like a kitten after cleaning fuel system - tank, shutoff, lines, carb. I couldn't believe it. Where are you located?

I paid 500 for mine but it was in way better condition. It hadn't ran in about 30 years and tank was all rusty and petcock fell apart after trying to turn it. After cleaning tank, new gas lines, and battery and a carb clean from Steve Reed, the little bike purred like new and still does.
