Pistons
« on: May 10, 2011, 11:44:05 AM »
I have been in contact with Wossner Pistons and have sent a sample for him to make some SR175 pistons. I will bite the bullit for the minumums and if anyone wants some after I get them and prove them, they will be at my dead cost. Not sure what they will be at this point.

A caveat when using aftermarket pistons (and rings) that I forgot to mention:  You probably know this, but you cannot use aftermarket piston rings with a chrome face in any cylinder with a chrome bore.  They will seize within seconds.  That's why Paul Piskor and I have our cylinders nickel/silicon coated, the only rings that Wiseco has in that size are chrome-faced even though their catalogs used to list non-faced rings also.  Either chrome or standard rings work great with Nikasil.  You will want to know for certain what rings are available for your setup.

If you are planning on using standard style rings, and Richard or CPC has sufficient stock of DT pistons, you could probably just get them ground to proper size much cheaper than having new ones made.  They do have a tapered, oval skirt, but that would need to be replicated on a new one too, so it may be cheaper to rework a few NOS DT pistons.

Of course, the Wiseco pistons seem to be pretty tough and they're cheap, usually about $75/each with ring, pin and clips on ebay.

Karl, Wossner asked it if was a chrome cylinder, I sent them the one new piston thay have and asked them to replicate it with the coated ones they have now for Yamaha and Suzuki. I believe they can do what I need.
