350 Neutral lamp lens color
« on: December 02, 2014, 04:24:25 PM »
Could someone tell me what color is the the neutral lamp lens on a GTO ? I have seen both green and blue lights (sober) on bikes or headlamps that looked pretty original (to me). Could it be that GTO and GTR have different lens colors ?
Thank you for your help in this very important matter !

This might clear up a mystery for me.  I could swear that the GTR I had back in the late 60's had a green neutral lamp, however the 3 machines (early and late manufacturing dates) I now have all have blue neutral lights. Bet Moonpup or Disc-Valve will know all about the variations.

There are no variations that I'm aware of. My nos neutral light is green. The 2 used ones on my bikes have a blue tint.

My guess is that some combo of age and UV exposure does something to the green plastic that over time makes them have more of a blue tint.

Seeing as how my name was mentoined, I guess I ought to say I agree with Moonpup. I never saw a GTR back when they were new (only 30-odd were imported to the UK, and none of them, reached the South west of England), but I bought my GTR as a restored bike in 1986, and that had a nice new set of  "panel lamps" - Red for main beam and Green for neutral. That is the same colours as used on all the other BS models, but presumably after 40+ years in the sun, they will fade to pale orange and blue.

Thanks guys, I knew you would have the answer. So they were green originally, I'm not going senile............yet? :D ;D :D.
The red high beam lights have retained there original colour and still look full red but I can live with a blue neutral light.

I bought two of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRIDGESTONE-350-NEUTRAL-LAMP-ASSY-/121507840588 recently just for the fittings as mine had deteriorated inside the headlamp bucket, on arrival the lenses were green so I used the original blue thinking green was wrong.

Now that I know green is original and correct I'll be swapping it back.

Being a rookie, I'll trust the old boys and swap the blue lens to a green one which will add a light "ecological" touch on my favorite 2-stroke ;D By the way, many thanks to you all
